Elevated in their decline

They had so much more to complain about than ever before, yet they complain so little. A grace has descended on them as they go deeper into their declining years. For the first time ever, I felt complete ease being with them.

Nothing is easy. She can’t move well. He can’t see or hear well. It takes ten minutes to go to the kitchen for a glass of water. And yet they enjoy their days together, and I enjoy their new found grace.

They are in their declining years, and yet they feel elevated to me. If this is what aging brings, it’s welcome.
